Lot Essay

There is a series of these black stoneware bottles recorded, all with impressed, repeated designs. Some of them bear impressed signatures in the style of Yixing artists, although these probably represent another local production of stoneware, since they appear only as snuff bottles and there are no similar wares from the more common production of Yixing known.
