Lot Essay

Finely carved basket-weave designs on snuff bottles were popular during the latter part of the Qianlong reign into the early nineteenth century. See a discussion in H. Moss, V. Graham, K.B. Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection, Hong Kong, 1998, vol. 2, Quartz, no. 347. This is a rare example in amber.
