The spoon is stamped Zai Qiu Tian Bao, which may be translated 'Precious Treasure of High Official Qiu.'

This is the only known miniature in this material, and one of the best made and finished of all known examples. For three amygdaloidal basalt bottles see H. White, Snuff Bottles from China: The Victoria and Albert Museum Collection, London, 1992, pl. 53, nos. 1-3.
