Lot Essay

The tied pouch, standing for longevity, often with a monkey to re-enforce the meaning, was a standard design from the late Qianlong period onwards. For other examples in the J & J. Collection, see H. Moss, V. Graham, K.B. Tsang, The Art of the Chinese Snuff Bottle, New York, 1993, nos. 17 and 18. This is an unusual example without the monkey.
