Oblong with shaped ends, the hinged cover engraved with Joseph being lowered into the well by his brothers, with figures in the background, within borders engraved with scrolls and diaperwork, the sides with panels of fishing boats, foliage, trelliswork, a soldier and laurel, the base with Joseph in the well being sold by his brothers to passing merchants, marked in interior base
