Jean Saint (1698-1774) was a native of Normandy who had moved to Amsterdam by 1723, joining the guild the following year. He is the mysterious maker IS discussed by K. Citroen in Snowman, Eighteenth Century Gold Boxes of Europe, London, 1966, pp. 167-168).
Norbert Heylbrouck was a native of Bruges although born into a Dutch family of painters and engravers. Working as an engraver and medallist in Bruges, he fell foul of the authorities and was sentenced to death for counterfeiting coins in 1731. The sentence was commuted by Archduchess Maria-Elizabeth of Austria, and Heylbrouck continued working, joining the George gilde in 1751 and signing himself graveur de sa Majesté de la Monnaye à Bruges. Prosecuted once again in 1755, he was exiled to Brussels in 1759 and died in 1762.
