Lot Essay
The scene is after an engraving from 1648 by Rombout van der Hoeye. During the ceremony at the conclusion of the Münster Treaty, six Dutch ministers were present.
They were:
1. Willem van Ripperda, Overijssel
2. Frans van Donia, Friesland
3. Adriaen Cleant tot Stedum, Groningen
4. Barthold van Ghent, Gelderland
5. Adriaen Pauw, Holland
6. Jan van Methenesse from West Friesland
The Minister of the Province of Zeeland, Johan van Knuyt, protested against the terms and refused to attend the ceremony (see catalogue of exhibition, Meesterwerken in Zilver 1520-1820, op. cit.).
