The Seats of the Nobility and Gentry, in a Collection of the most interesting and Picturesque Views. Chelsea, London: W. Watts, 1779-[1786]. Oblong 4° (197 x 270mm). Engraved title. 84 engraved plates by Watts. (Some light marginal spotting or browning). Contemporary tree calf gilt, the spine gilt in compartments, gilt morocco lettering-piece in one (short splits on joints, extremities a little rubbed, spine faded).
'FIRST EDITION (with the imprint 'Published by W. Watts, Kemp's Row, Chelsea, January 1st 1779' on the engraved title), of this fine collection of views of country houses set in their landscapes, the plates interleaved with accompanying descriptions. William Watts's engravings are after drawings or paintings by eminent artists such as Thomas and Paul Sandby and William Hodges. Brunet V col. 1424; Lewine p.572; Upcott p.xxxiii.
