A Dutch-engraved Lauenstein goblet
Circa 1750
The thistle bowl inscribed O WONDER O WONDER EN NOGH ENS WONDER 'T SCHIP IS VOL GAETEN EN SINKT NIET ONDER (O wonder O wonder and even more wonder, the ship is filled with holes and does not sink under) above a man standing outside a house on an island waving farewell to a single-masted vessel containing six maidens and a sailor, the stem with a knop above a hollow inverted baluster section and folded conical foot
