'ALIUS' An excellent stipple-engraver, this master, as far as is known, never signed any of the 134 engravings attributed to him. There is some similarity between various designs executed by him and by David Wolff and it is possible that 'Alius' ('the other') worked in close association with David Wolff and could even have been a member of the Wolff family (see F.G.A.M. Smit, Uniquely Dutch eighteenth-century stipple-engravings on glass, Peterborough, 1993, p. 19 for a more detailed discussion about the engraver "Alius").

The bell bowl with a scantily draped figure of a blindfolded putto seated among clouds, holding a pair of scales in his right hand and a sword in his left hand, inscribed IUSTITIA on a ribbon cartouche above, on facet-cut knopped and inverted baluster stem and conical foot
