An encre-de-Chine 'topographical' plate
Circa 1745
Painted en grisaille and gilt with a view of the 'Oude Kerk' in Amsterdam, seen from across the 'Oudezijds Voorburgwal' canal with various figures and a row of trees in front of the church, encircled at the rim by a Louis XV-style strapwork border entwined with feathery foliage and berries, small glaze frits
22.6 cm. (8 7/8 in.) diam.

The view of the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam follows closely an anonymous print published by P.L. Walser and P.C. Pet, Amsterdam, p. 63. A similar plate is also illustrated in Hervouët et Bruneau, La Porcelaine des Compagnie des Indes à Décor Occidental, Paris, 1986 , p. 238, fig. 10.2
