Unsigned, Meiji Period (Late 19th Century)
Katabori, stained ivory; standing group of a Westerner with a child, the adult wearing a wide-brimmed, tasselled hat and a Chinese coat with wave decoration and playing a tasselled, trumpet-mouthed musical instrument which he holds in both hands, the child to his right holding one of the tassels in his left hand, his coat-buttons of dark horn, the himotoshi formed by a hole in the adult's coat connecting with another drilled through the bottom of the coat
