Lot Essay

The figure appears in the right foreground of La Pipée aux Oiseaux in the Getty Museum. Other drawings derived from this and its companion picture La Fontaine d'Amour, both large-scale tapestry designs, likewise with seemingly false Chennevières collector's marks, were recorded in the 1970s.
