AN IMPORTANT DIAMOND RING, BY JULIUS COHEN
PROPERTY TO BENEFIT THE CANCER THERAPY AND RESEARCH CENTER* The Cancer Therapy and Research Center (CTRC) opened in 1974. It functions as a non-profit multidisciplinary, outpatient clinic and research organization, handling nearly 100,000 patient visits per year. CRTC is recognized in the international medical and scientific communities and is particularly noted for the quality of its innovative research programs, treatment modalities and informative prevention and education programs. CRTC is one of the few cancer centers in the country to offer a Wellness Center, in which a patient's medical care is supplemented by holistic mind, body and spirit support. CRTC has been a pioneer in radiosurgery as well as radiation technology. In 1991, the CRTC Institute for Drug Development was founded and focuses exclusively on the discovery and development of new therapies to treat cancer. Through basic, translational and clinical research, the time for development of new drugs has been cut in half. The IDD conducts the largest Phase 1 clinical oncology program in the world, treating nearly 600 patients per year, setting unprecedented standards for the development of anticancer agents. To further research initiatives, CRTC and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio formed a research partnership. This partnership, designated by the National Cancer Institute, is a comprehensive cancer center, one of an elite group of cancer centers in the nation.
