1981 FERRARI 308 GTS TWO SEATER SPORTS
Registration No. HTN 707W
Chassis No. ZFFBA04C 0000 31239
Engine No. 04307

Engine: all aluminium V8, double overhead camshafts to each bank, four double choke carburettors, 2,927cc, 215bhp at 6600rpm; Gearbox: five speed manual; Suspension: front and rear, independent with upper and lower wishbones, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers and anti-roll bars; Brakes: discs all round. Right hand drive.
The Ferrari 308 GTB was the first in a successful series of two seater mid-mounted, V8 engined Ferrari road cars with sparkling performance and phenomenal road holding. It was aimed firmly at the sector of the market in which the Porsche 911 had such a strong foothold.
Introduced in 1976, were the GTB (Berlinetta) versions - with the first 200 cars having fibreglass bodywork. Within two years, a change to steel bodywork had been made and a GTS (Spyder) version was added. Without doubt, the 308 was a success. Exceptionally pretty Pininfarina bodywork clothed the transversely mounted V8 engine, and with free running performance, the car had instant appeal.
HTN 707W, was originally purchased by Robert Clancy, of London and registered new in March 1981. A file with the car provides some history of servicing, with various bills for work undertaken in 1990 and 1991, but does not give complete ownership detail. The car was acquired by the present owner twelve years ago, and has seen regular but limited use, though it has been kept maintained on an annual basis.
The condition of the paintwork is very good and the car must have been resprayed professionally at some time. Whilst the interior is the original with black leather and red inserts, and this shows wear commensurate with its age, most notably there is 'scuffing' to the top of the dashboard above the instruments. On recent inspection and brief test drive by a Christie's specialist, the Ferrari started and ran well, but it was noted that the electric windows although operative were slow, and that the tyres were old. It is fitted with a Panasonic stereo cassette, and carries a jack, but has no tool kit.
A current MoT and history file are offered with the car.
