A NORTH ITALIAN ROSEWOOD AND MARQUETRY COMMODE, LATE 18TH CENTURY
Crossbanded and bordered with Greek key lines of trompe l'oeil pattern, with chequerstrung borders, the top with an oval panel centred by Venus of Urbino with a sleeping dog in flowers and foliate surround, containing three long drawers, the top drawer divided in three and enclosed by slides, the central slide with a paper panel and chequerstrung border flanked by compartments with slides inlaid with stylised avenue of cypress trees and a gateway, the sides with veneered panels of a seascape and a castle within similar borders, on square tapered legs
