Lot Essay

The distinctive overlapping-guilloche angle-mounts are of very similar model to those employed by both Jean-Pierre Latz (1691-1754) and Bernard II van Risenburgh (maître in 1733), as can be seen on the tables sold from the Alexander Collection at Christie's New York, 30 April 1999, lots 93 and 101-2 respectively. This would perhaps suggest that the ébéniste responsible for this table à écrire was also working for the same marchand-mercier, who in turn supplied the mounts.
