marked with the Cyrillic initials of Fedor Rückert, Moscow, 1908-1917
Oblong, on four bracket feet, the sides and feet decorated with stylized vari-colored Pan-Slavic motifs, the ends with shaped cloisonné enamel handles, the raised hinged cover with en-plein enamel plaque depicting the painting by V. Vasnetsov 'Russian Knight at the Crossroads', marked on base

Lot Essay

Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov (1848-1926) painted his painting 'Russian Knight at the Crossroads' (Vitiaz) in 1882. It was commissioned by Savva Ivanovich Mamontov. This painting is now hanging in the State Russian museum in St. Petersburg.
