Shaped circular with chased gothic trefoil and quatrefoil border, the field embossed with a scene of a slain figure with servant and rider on horse back, the well engraved Death of Sir Thomas Richmont who fell in a personal encounter with James Carl Douglas in Jedburg Forest A.D. 1316 and IN RECORD OF MARGARET RICHMOND B. 1689 CO-HEIRESS OF HIGHHEAD CASTLE, CUMBERLAND, the border engraved with a coat-of-arms and beneath in script Inigo W. Jones A.D. 1855, marked on reverse, also stamped R&S GARRARD PANTON ST LONDON

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Inigo-Jones of Kelston Park for Col. Inigo William Jones, who married in 1844, Anna Maria, daughter of Joseph Neeld, of Grittleton, Wiltshire. Joseph Neeld was the nephew and heir to the fortune of the Royal goldsmith, Philip Rundell. A set of four candlesticks made for Joseph Neeld are offered in this sale, lot 339.
