The fine engraving on the dishes was inspired by the work of Italian Renaissance designer Stefano Della Bella (1610-1664), Raccolta di varii capricci. Silversmith Edward Farrell (c.1775-1850) drew upon historical forms and decorative elements of the 16th-18th centuries to produce some of the most innovative silver designs of the early 19th century.
