With nickel-finished lever movement, 26 jewels, the black matte dial with luminous baton and Arabic numerals, luminous Mercedes-style hands, sweep center seconds, the tonneau-shaped water-resistant-type case with screw back and screw down crown, together with a stainless steel Rolex Oyster bracelet, case, dial and movement signed

Lot Essay

The Explorer model was patented in Geneva in 1953 and was designed for use in extreme conditions.

The present lot is from the second series as it features hacking seconds. A similar example is illustrated in The Best of Time - Rolex Wristwatches by James M. Dowling & Jeffrey P. Hess, p. 249.
