Lot Essay

Believed to be the only extant contact print of this negative, Hazel Strand's annotation Master suggests this print was to be used as a guide for all future printings of this negative. The tape marks on the verso suggest that this print was used for the reproduction in Strand's Tir a Mhurain (New York and London, 1962). The number 12 on the verso likely corresponds to the sequencing of this image in the maquette.
