Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru--Vintage 1994
Domaine-bottled: Bonneau du Martray
Parcel: lots 86 to 88
This famous estate has two remarkable links with Burgundy's history; René Bonneau du Matray (who died in 1969) was a direct descendant of Nicholas Rolin, who caused the Hospice de Beaune to be built in 1443, and the plot of land on which the Domaine's vines are planted can be linked right back to the original vineyard-land which was owned by Emperor Charlemagne up to AD 775.

Today the quality of the wines is outstanding. Their character is intense, steely and slow to please when youthful. This 1994 has reached maturity yet will continue to gain complexity for at least 3 to 5 years. AH
