FOUR SMALL SAFAVID BLUE AND WHITE DISHES
Iran, 17th century
Each with sloping rim and short foot, the interior of two with a stylised landscape painted after the Chinese original, the underside with an Armenian inscription, a third with a stylised large leaf within a scrolling vine border, the last with a dense design of floral patterns, three rims painted brown, slight rim chips, otherwise intact

Lot Essay

The Armenian signatures on the back of two of these are closely related to the inscriptions on three Armenian vessels formerly in the Tina and Haroutune Hazarian Collection (Armenian Ceramic Art, exhibition catalogue, New York, n.d., cover and p.1).
