Lot Essay

The inscription contains a quatrain in Persian together with parts of different verses in Persian. The beginnings of the date are there (hijriyya nabawiyya, of the Prophet's migration) but this is followed by restoration.

It is unusual to find a simurgh depicted in a tile of this period. This example is particularly well-drawn and coloured. It represents the bird in its earlier manifestation, almost resembling a griffin, rather than the Chinese influenced phoenix-like depiction which is found in later centuries.
