THREE EARLY ISLAMIC LEAD SEALS (BULLAE)
Arabia or the Levant, 7th-9th centuries
Comprising a triangular seal with two attachmant loops at each corner, cast with a kufic inscription on both sides, another of irregular outline stamped on one side with a four-line kufic inscription, the third heavier cast of circular form stamped on one side with a four-line kufic inscription, slight weathering and rubbing on all
first one 7/8in. (2.2cm.) high (3)

Lot Essay

Some of these inscriptions are difficult to translate. Their partial readings are as follows:
Triangular seal, side 1: "Praise of God be to ..... for God is Ahmad b. Ibrahim. Side 2 is difficult to interpret.
Circular seal: "....the year [hundred] and fifty five (771-2 AD)"
Irregular seal: "al-Amir al-'Abbas [ordered] it ,,,,,, made by 'Isa ibn 'Ali".
