Lot Essay

The form of this bowl with its radiating panels on the exterior appears to derive from Yuan Chinese porcelain bowls with radiating panels such as those seen on the exterior of the Indian blue and white copy in this sale (lot 124). The precise outline is shallower than most pottery examples of the 14th and 15th century, being more reminiscent of the profile of some late 12th and early 13th century bowls. It may well be that this piece is from that earlier period.
