A MUGHAL JADE HILTED DAGGER
North India or the Deccan, 18th century
The tapering watered steel blade gently curving to a point, a small cartouche by the hilt damascened with gold floral sprays, the hilt made from two pieces of jade, the lower scrolling terminals with inset turquoises, carved in the centre with a lily flower on each side, the main part swelling and then tapering carved with leaves and flaring to terminate in two buds and a central opening flower originally inset
