A LATE SAFAVID POLYCHROME LACQUER PAPIER MACHE QALAMDAN
Attributed to Muhammad Zaman, Persia, AH 1101/1689-90 AD, more probably early 18th Century
With rounded ends and sliding tray, the top painted with a vertical composition depicting a central shepherd modelled after a European original, in a stylised landscape with sheep in the foreground and buildings behind, the black sides with small stylised floral sprays, the red base and tray with meandering gold leafy and flowering vine, some restoration, re-lacquered, signature probably added later
