Ottoman Turkey, circa 1570
Comprising three tiles, the lavender blue ground of each of the three painted in white and red slip together with green and blue glazes within black outlines together forming a design of a vase containing flowering sprays and issuing a further serrated leafy spray on a ground of scrolling flowering and palmette vine, cloudband-motifs and arabesque panels, composite from more than three original tiles, areas of restoration, framed

Lot Essay

Another tile from the same original panel was sold in these Rooms 13 October 1998, lot 210. That example had part of a large black ground panel containing dense cloudbands, palmettes and arabesques enclosed within a saz leaf frame on the lavender blue ground.
