The set is illustrated on the cover of Elisabeth Bennion's book Antique Medical Instruments (1979). Bennion dates the set circa 1750; however, Alfred Schetts puts the date around 1780.

signed by Jean-Jacques Perret (trade mark on the trepanning drill and a lenticular), including: a trepanning drill, perforators, elevators and lenticulars (one tip missing) all with ebony handles and contained in a plush-lined, mahogany case --11½in. (29.3cm.) long
