Details
An unusual 5in. gauge static display model of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway 'Jenny Lind' type 2-2-2 locomotive and tender No. 153,
constructed of wood, ferrous metal and brass with good external detailing including springs and hangers, slotted splashers, displacement lubricators, pipes and valves, sand boxes and pipes, footplate and backhead fittings, whistle, steam dome, safety valves, hand irons and other details. Tender details include emergancy stop bell, brake gear, springs and hangers, rivets, steps, hand and lamp irons, finished in the early LB&SCR green/brown livery of J.C. Craven (some paint loss; one buffer missing) -- 13 1/3 x 42½in. (33.7 x 108cm.) Showtrack and glazed case (top cover missing) and a wooden plaque inscribed: A model of the Jenny Lind type of locomotive. The locomotive, No. 153, is one of the enlarged Jenny Linds built at the Brighton works of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway in July 1862 to the designs of J.C. Craven, the Locomotive Superintendent. No.153 was rebuilt by W. Stroudley in 1876 being renumbered 164 and named 'Spitfire'. It was broken up in 1891. The model is probably unique in showing the green style of painting in vogue before Stroudley introduced his celebrated yellow livery. Scale 1" to the foot
