"JONES HOTEL BURNING". Burman print of Oswald Madeley original.
A remarkable photo taken soon after the hotel had been fired. Dense smoke is blown by the south-westerly breeze that quickly spread flames though the flimsy, bullet-riddled building. In the foreground one of the Wangaratta police still takes cover behind a tree in case Dan Kelly and Steve Hart are driven out to make a last, hopeless foray against their enemies. But both lie dead in a back room, to be discovered by Father Gibney who ran into the burning building immediately after this photo was taken.
