A ROYAL WORCESTER VAISSEAU A MAT
Circa 1880
Modelled after the Sevres model based freely on a ship, raised on four scroll feet, the body moulded as lion masks framing cannons, the tall cover elaborately pierced in the style of rigging, surmounted by a fluttering pendant, the body painted in the manner of Morin, with harbour scenes of children working at the waters edge, the reverse with a garland of flowers, reserved on a royal blue ground with extensive gilding, purple mark and retail mark for Goode and Co., London (slight restoration to end of pendant)

Lot Essay

The design for the original Sevres Vaisseau a Mat was drawn from the arms of the city of Paris. The design was closely imitated by Worcester and Minton.
