The distinctive design of these wall lights recall the Régence models made fashionable in France by André-Charles Boulle in the early 18th century. Several close models, with their assymetrical branches, wildly scrolling foliage and small crouched dragons, are illustrated in his Nouveaux deisseins de meubles et ouvrages de bronze et de marquetrie inventé et gravé... (see J.P. Samoyault, André-Charles Boulle et sa famille: nouveaux recherches et nouveaux documents, Geneva, 1979, p.221).

A similar pair of wall lights was sold Christie's London, 12 June 1997, lot 45.
