Lot Essay

Kändler first modeled the Bolognese dog in 1769. Bred for centuries in Bologna, these small dogs with their alert eyes and long-haired coats with tufts above the eyes and around the mouth were favored as lapdogs in 18th century Germany along with the ubiquitous pug or Mops.
