THREE TURKMAN RUGS
Turkmenistan, last quarter 19th century
Comprising a Saryk engsi, the fox-brown field with angular linked hooked vine, stylised floral sprays together with linked diamond panels around a central square panel containing floral sprays, horizontal rows of floral sprays at one end, in a linked hook-motif and diamond border between diamond striped stripes, angular arched panels at one end, slight wear; a part silk Turkman torba, the shaded rust-red field with an shemle design of overall diagonal rows of deep indigo lozenges containing raspberry-red small hooked motifs, in a deep aubergine border of linked angular panels between panelled S-motif and barber- pole stripes, a linked lozenge and striped skirt, kotchak stripe top end, attached tassels, good condition; and a Turkman juval, the plum field with three rows of three turreted Salor guls together with smaller stepped guls in a linked hooked panel border between zigzag and barber-pole stripes, a skirt with angular floral sprays at one end, good condition
