Original quarter morocco (spines slightly darkened and dry at ends); original box (light wear).
It is unknown for what edition the present limitation leaf was first intended, but they are apparently all found in this 1953 set. The leaves were presumably generated c. 1928-30 when Doubleday was negotiating other signed editions of Doyle, but set aside after the poor sales of the Crowborough Edition and finally salvaged 20 years later.
