Lot Essay

We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer of the RKD for the attribution, given on the basis of photographs. This elusive female still life painter is recorded in Amsterdam in 1660 (see A. von Wurzbach, Niederlandsisches Kunstler-Lexicon, 1963, I, p. 160); comparable signed pictures by her include the pair sold in these Rooms, 4 July 1986, lot 32, and another offered in these Rooms, 17 December 1999, lot 144, as by a follower of Cornelis de Heem. Another, echoing the same pyramidal distribution of the pewter dish, blue and white bowl and circular wooden box, was sold in these Rooms, 7 July 2000, lot 147.
