Saint Augustine

This is a modello for one of a series depicting The Four Doctors of the Church in the Cappella della Corte d'Appello, Turin (see the catalogue to the exhibition Giuseppe Antonio Petrini, Lugano, Villa Malpensata, 14 September-24 November 1991, nos. 15-18, illustrated). In the catalogue Paolo Venturoli suggests a dating between the Saint John the Evangelist of 1707 (Dublin, National Gallery of Ireland) and the Saint Joseph in the Church of Saint Antonio, Lugano of 1715.
