Lot Essay

In this interior a Dutch cream painted and parcel-gilt suite of salon furniture of Louis XV style, a fine 18th century giltwood overmantle mirror and console table and a Deventer carpet of 'Ushak design', create an atmosphere of elegance and render a sense of wealth.

A later version from 1857 of the composition with some variations was sold at F.A. van Braam, 20 March 1948, lot 126, ill.
