Finely painted after Peter Paul Rubens with a lavish court fête champêtre, a temple, grotto and spilling fountain in the background
12½ x 16½in. (31.8 x 41.9cm.), within green-velvet and gilt gesso frame

Lot Essay

Rubens painted three versions of this composition. The present example relates most closely to the painting on panel at Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire, circa 1630-32. See Peter C.
