Waldmüller (d. 1865) studied painting in Vienna with Maurer and Lampi and became an Academician in 1835. Much inspired by Thomas Lawrence as a portrait painter, Waldmüller also painted charming interior genre scenes, as well as landscapes around Vienna. The original paintings of The Godmother's Farewell (1859) and The Congratulators (1861) are in the collection of the Vienna Österreichische Galerie.
