A LOUIS XVI ORMOLU, BLACK AND WHITE MARBLE MANTEL CLOCK
Circa 1785
The white enamelled dial signed: 'Crosnier a Paris rue St. Honoré No. 140' with roman numerals, pierced gilt hands and leaf cast and beaded bezel, set in a marble plinth flanked by a young woman, draped à l'antique with a spaniel, and a figure of cupid standing on a cloud, symbolic of love and fidelity; with flower and foliage drops to each side of the dial, the black and white marble rectangular plinth with rounded ends having ormolu bead mouldings, set to the front with an ormolu relief panel of putti playing various musical instruments; on six milled toupie feet
35 cm (13 3/4 in) wide; 36 cm (14 1/4 in.) high; 13 cm (5 in.) deep
