A REGENCY MAHOGANY EXTENDING DINING-TABLE
Comprising a central section with swivel top, above a frieze with two short lopers on each of the four sides to support leaves, extending to support six extra leaves, the rounded rectangular top with reeded edge, on eight reeded slender baluster legs with later brass caps and castors, four old clips and eight new brass clips, lacking four brass screws for fixing the leaves

Lot Essay

This table is reputed to have belonged to the Duke of Wellington, the famed military General. Although there are dining-tables listed in the June 1854 and January 1857 inventories of Apsley House, none seem to correspond to the present table.
