Lot Essay

With their reed enrichments and galleried tops, the tables relate to a dressing-table pattern illustrated in the 1806 sketch book of Gillow of London and Lancaster. One of these dressing-tables was supplied in 1811 for Parlington Hall, Aberford (C. Gilbert, Furniture at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall, vol. II, London, 1978, p. 380, fig. 500). Another sketch for a closely related three-drawer dressing-table, but without reeding, appears in the firm's 1831 sketch book (p. 3822, dated May [18]23).
