Banded overall in tulipwood and sycamore, the three-tier superstructure with later three-quarter pierced brass gallery, trellis sides and columns above a panelled cylinder-bureau enclosing four small drawers, three pigeon-holes and a brown leather-lined ratcheted writing-surface, above a part cedar, part mahogany-lined frieze drawer and a concave-fronted tambour door, on square tapering legs, brass caps and castors, the superstructure altered and possibly associated

Lot Essay

The roll top desk pattern derives from Thomas Sheraton, The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book, 1793, pl. XLVII, from Part III. A similar mahogany and satinwood example was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 15 June 2000, lot 137.
