A NEAR PAIR OF REGENCY PARCEL-GILT AND SIMULATED ROSEWOOD OPEN ARMCHAIRS
One with a guilloche scrolled rectangular padded back, fluted armrests on outwards scrolling supports headed by paterae, upholstered in light grey material, the beaded panelled rails above curved legs headed by Satyr-masks and terminating in hoof-feet; the other of similar but slightly plainer design, the front legs on one chair probably replaced (2)

Lot Essay

An armchair with horn-bearing Satyr-monopodiae and closely related to the armchair illustrated to the right, was sold in these Rooms, 8 May 1980, lot 17; another four armchairs of this pattern were sold Sotheby's, New York, 16-17 April 1998, lot 898.

An armchair similar to the chair illustrated on the left, was sold in these Rooms, 1 December 1977, lot 17.
