Lot Essay

These figures are copied from a Roman bronze excavated at Herculaneum in 1754, which in itself, was probably copied from a Greek original. These examples were probably produced by the Naples firm of J. Chiurazzi & Fils who specialised in bronze reproductions of objects excavated at Pompeii and Herculaneum. It appears in their catalogue of 1900 as No.7- Discobole.
