QING DYNASTY, 17TH/18TH CENTURY

The censer is shaped as a deep cup raised on a tall splayed foot decorated with a lappet band, the sides cast with lotus-petal lobes rising to the mouth rim and encircled above the mid-section with a twisted rope band, set with a pair of bird masks suspending loose rings, the cover well cast in reticulation with five cranes in flight amidst ruyi clouds, surmounted by a finial shaped as a lotus pod, the details highlighted in gilt
